Discipline: The Essential Ingredient for Success in Life

Discipline comes from inside. Real discipline is part of one’s personality. It is nothing but an expression of respect for life, respect for yourself, which is why you keep it on even when things are hard.

In fact it is natural to be disciplined, to follow a pattern of existence that has order. Discipline requires a tangible goal, an adoption of something larger than yourself which is guiding your attitude. It is the system of channeling a talent.

When discipline comes from commitment of the spirit it brings unbroken safety. It keeps you at the safety side of the road. In all moods, discipline gently holds you steady. Discipline is mercy. A leader without discipline is a mess. Self discipline is the tool for a successful leadership.

Discipline takes you towards a long path slowly but steadily. Discipline is necessary right from childhood for developing better skills and good habits. Discipline can be either external or internal. External discipline is that which has imposed by some other person on you. Internal discipline has the one which you accepted and agreed of your own. Thus internal discipline has also called as self discipline. Self discipline is always better than external discipline.

A self disciplined leader is always an inspiration for his followers. A disciplined leader can think independently for the group. He can keep his mind stable at any time because of disciplined activities. Discipline is following the chosen right path. Discipline always offers comfort and calmness of mind to its follower.

Self-discipline grows with use. Discipline has many times considered as will-power. But these two are totally different aspects. Discipline is focusing systematically on what you really want. If you can clearly understand that discipline becomes much easier.

Self discipline can easily develop by following some easy steps.

  1. Fix your goal

  2. Confirm why you want to achieve that goal

  3. List down the obstacles

  4. Note down the ways to overcome the obstacles

  5. Focus on your efforts for achieving the goal

Self discipline and willpower go hand in hand. It gives provides you the stamina to stick with whatever you do. The strength to withstand all types of hardships and difficulties is the gift of discipline.  It manifest as perseverance. It motivates you to gain something better in terms of satisfaction, pleasure and comfort.

Procrastination, laziness and weakness are the enemies of self discipline. Cultivating the trait of self discipline is the most precious skill for success. Once you master this skill, you will become the most productive person in very less time in your life. In simple words self discipline means when you have to do something, you do it whether you like it or not.

Self discipline is a skill that you need to practice consistently. Practice it every time.  The day you stop practicing discipline immediately you start losing it. Self discipline is an incredibly important thing for your personal development. You suffer from either of two things: the pain of discipline or the pain of regret. It is better to start suffering the pain of discipline because the pain of regret hurts a lot in the long run.
